New Rent Control Law in CA

Real estate news

Landlords and tenants alike are wondering how California’s new Rent Contol Law, AB-1482, will affect them – or whether it will at all. Elements in the law add layers of challenges for landlords in operating their rental businesses.

AB-1482 – Tenant Protection Act of 2019

The law, known as The Tenant Protection Act of 2019, took effect on January 1, 2020. Most notable in the topics included are rent controls and eviction controls. Some exemptions apply, based upon the age and type of property, as well as the type of ownership. For the exemption to apply, specific notice must be given to the tenant.

The San Francisco Chronicle published an article that answers common questions and explains some of the exemptions which apply. MarketWatch also published an informative article with more details.
